inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections has suspended 71 immigration officers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta) due to illegal levies imposed on foreign nationals from China.

“Following the incident, as of today, the 71 immigration officers are no longer part of us,” says the Minister of Immigrations and Corrections, Agus Andrianto on Wednesday (2/19/2025).

In his statement, he stated that the number consisted of one former office head, one former division head, one division head, five inspection heads, 23 supervisory officers and 40 counter officers.

Furthermore, he explained that currently the deactivated employees are still undergoing examination by the Directorate General of Internal Compliance and the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections.

“They will be examined for further sanctions according to the applicable regulations,” explains Agus.

Previously, the extortion case against Chinese nationals was revealed after the Chinese Embassy sent a diplomatic note on January 21, 2025, containing allegations of extortion by Soekarno-Hatta Airport immigration officers from February 2024 to January 2025.

Based on the results of checking the crossing data of Chinese nationals as stated in the diplomatic note, 39 immigration officers were found to be tasked with checking immigration documents for Chinese nationals.

The diplomatic note also stated that during the period there had been 44 cases of extortion against 60 Chinese citizens, and there had been a total refund of IDR 32,750,000.

"And it is true, there was an extortion incident against 60 Chinese citizens and the money has been returned to each of them," he said.

For that reason, his party conducted an investigation and took firm action against the immigration officers who committed the extortion.
