Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo emphasized that archipelagic and Island states participating in the Archipelagic and Island State (AIS) Forum, are among the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
"These island and archipelagic nations are the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change," stated the President in his remarks after concluding the AIS Forum in Bali on Wednesday (11/10/23).
He stressed the imperative of innovation and technology in addressing the repercussions of climate change. He added that the AIS Forum advocates for the development of innovations across four areas of cooperation, namely climate change mitigation and adaptation, the implementation of the blue economy, the protection of marine ecosystems, and the advancement of effective ocean governance.
"As archipelagic nations, this will be immensely beneficial to our community, as the sea serves as a life source, particularly for our fishermen. The innovations we discover can be readily applied. I believe this is of paramount importance," the President said.
President Jokowi said that the AIS Forum stands as one of Indonesia's commitments to collaborate at a higher level. It also signified the nation's role as an international organization taking concrete steps towards addressing regional and global issues, while continuing to advocate for the interests of developing and island nations.
