inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. The Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo appreciates the quick handling of National Sport Weekend (PON) committee following a strong wind that smashed the huge window of 3x3 basketball avenue during the match on Wednesday (9/18/2024)
“The committee has been working fast to provide first aid to the spectators and working together with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing to repair the avenue despite the extreme weather,” says Dito on Wednesday (9/18/2024).
Minister Dito also suggested that the PON XXI matches be delayed if the extreme weather continues for the safety of all.
Extreme weather has proved to be an arduous challenge for PON XXI in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar for the past few days.
The wind hit one of the large windows (1.5 meters x 4.5 meters) at the 3x3 basketball avenue. Shards of glass hit spectators in the stands, causing six people to suffer injuries, two of whom had to be rushed to Meuraxa Hospital. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in this incident.
As an emergency measure, the committee immediately installed a paranet to replace the damaged glass. Amidst extreme weather conditions, workers on site swiftly repaired the damage to ensure the safety of the venue was maintained.
