Inp.polri.go.id - Cilegon. To alleviate congestion as holiday travelers head towards Merak Port, the Banten Regional Police have introduced a delay system at the Merak Toll exit. According to Superintendent Kukuh P. Taruno, the Deputy Director of Traffic at the Banten Police, traffic congestion on the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road began on Friday night at 11 om and persisted into early Saturday morning (6/4/2024). "The queue of vehicles started on Friday nightand eased around 5 am on Saturday morning. However, traffic volume increased again from 7 am until now," he said. To address this, the police have initiated a delay system, starting from rest areas at kilometer 43 and kilometer 68 on the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road. "This is due to the high volume of vehicles from Jakarta heading towards Merak, resulting in such queues. However, this doesn't last long; the delay lasts only 10 minutes before vehicles can proceed," Chief Kukuh explained. He said that approximately 300 to 500 private four-wheeled vehicles pass through the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road every hour. The delay system is implemented situationally when traffic congestion or queues occur for holiday travelers heading to Merak. "If we don't implement the delay system, the queues could be even longer. Trucks are directed to exit at East Cilegon and are rerouted to the BBJ and Pelindo ports," he said. (mg/fa/pr/nm)
