Inp.polri.go.id – Banten. Banten Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Abdul Karim firmly against travelers who went to Merak without ticket as it would only make the situation in the port worse. As of now, the port officials reports the ticket for ferry from Merak jo Bakauheni have been sold out and will not be on the market until April 9th. The Two-Star General reminds that there will be a significant increase of travelers participating in the homecoming flow for this year. “It is 63% more than last year. Last year, it was only 18,000 per day, and now it is 29,000 per day,” said Abdul. On the other hand, the bad condition in Merak was due to how unexpected the number of travelers coming to the port, while the rhythm of vehicles coming to the port must be synchronized with the ferry coming to the port. "Because the ship capacity is limited, and the docks are also limited, while there are tens of thousands of vehicles coming to the port," he said. In anticipating the issue, his party has carried out various strategies, one of which is the “delay system” to disperse the queue of vehicles going to Merak. Other measures are by diverting the vehicles to the “buffer area” where vehicles will be diverted to the locations before going towards the port. Then, officials also temporarily limit the access to Merak for vehicles other than buses and private cars. The goods transportation from classes VI, VII, VIII to IX, were all diverted to Bandar Bakau Jaya (BBJ) Port. “This is part of our effort in suppressing the traffic volume going to Merak. Thanks to all these efforts I think it is much better than last evening. We are trying our best,” said Abdul in conclusion. (ad/sy/pr/nm)
