Inp.polri.go.id - Mataram. The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has confirmed that the Brazilian tourist who fell while trekking Mount Rinjani likely plunged into a steep ravine at Cemara Nunggal, a treacherous segment near the summit route.
“The victim fell in the Cemara Nunggal area — a deep ravine with very extreme terrain. We are focusing on search and evacuation,” said I Kadek Agus Ariawan, the field coordinator of SAR Mataram, on Monday (23/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The victim, identified as Juliana Marins (27), was trekking with a group on Saturday morning when she reportedly lost footing. The area is known for its steep cliffs adjacent to Segara Anak Lake, making access difficult.
Rescue teams are using ropes, SRT kits, drones, and thermal imaging, facing severe weather and rocky terrain. SAR efforts involve over 50 personnel from Basarnas, Rinjani National Park Authority, the military, the police, local disaster agencies, and mountain guides.
“Despite weather and terrain challenges, all teams are giving their best to reach the victim’s fall point,” said Kadek.
