Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the drought season in most areas in Indonesia would be over by the end of October, with rainy season began on early November. However, due to how different and varies the climate in Indonesia, the beginning of rainy season in Indonesia would not happen simultaneously. Meanwhile, the agency states the peak of rainy season would be in January-February 2024. “According to our prediction, the effect of El Nino would be at its peak in September. But we also saw in our satellite data that the intensity of El Nino would not be decreased in October. The effect of this El Nino was predicted to be going on until next year,” says BMKG Chairperson Dwikorita Karnawati in her written statement released on Wednesday (10/4/2023). She says that the moderate level of El Nino would persist in February and ends on March 2024. The beginning of the rainy season itself is linked to the the transition of the Australian Monsoon to the Asian Monsoon. Currently, Asian Monsoon has entered Indonesia which predicted November would be the beginning of rainy season. “This means El Nino effect would be decreased due to rainy season and hopefully the drought season would be over gradually,” she said. On that occasion BMKG Chairperson also warned the people not to do any activities that could trigger any fire incidents. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
