Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia's decision to join the BRICS economic bloc (comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) will be determined by the incoming administration led by President-Elect Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi said on Thursday (5/9/2024).

"The decision will rest with the future government, but we continue to provide input to the president-elect regarding the BRICS matter," she said during a working session with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), as reported by antaranews.com.

Minister Retno confirmed that she had discussed BRICS with Prabowo shortly after he was declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election. Indonesia had previously been invited to join the bloc during the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg in August 2023. However, the country is assessing the economic benefits before making a final decision.

"We need to evaluate whether the economic advantages are substantial enough for us to decide to join BRICS," she added.
