inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding wants to reduce the number of migrant workers in the domestic sector to 80 percent.
"80 percent are domestic (workers) with 70 percent of them being women. And their education on average is elementary school, junior high school. Only a few managed to finish their high school," said Minister Abdul on Friday (3/7/2025).
In his effort, Minister Abdul collaborated and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Diponegoro University (Undip) and the Open University (UT).
With the signing of the MoU, it is hoped that the number of migrant workers in the domestic sector will continue to go down in the future.
"So we have to prepare, consolidate all training institutions that are spread everywhere, to focus on one subject. For example, Undip wants to focus on fisheries and English for their language subject, likewise, for UT. We will link and match it directly," continued Minister Abdul.
Vice Chancellor of Universitas Terbuka (UT) Rahmat Budiman said UT continues to strive to increase access as widely as possible to Indonesian migrant workers to improve their competence through the work-while-study program.
"The flexibility of time between work and study offered by UT opens up opportunities to provide formal education access to the migrant workers abroad," said the Vice Chancellor of UT.
