Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced plans to evacuate another 96 Indonesian citizens from Syria in the near future.
Judha Nugraha, the Director of the Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities, said on Thursday (12/12/2024) that the government is working to repatriate these individuals, with the evacuation process coordinated with the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus.
While the exact timing of the evacuation remains undisclosed, he confirmed that the group includes students, who will likely be part of a second wave of evacuations after migrant workers are repatriated.
The evacuation followed the recent repatriation of 37 Indonesian citizens, mainly migrant domestic workers, in three phases. The first two flights arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Thursday, with a third flight expected later that evening.
The Ministry’s data indicates that most of the returnees are women from regions such as Lampung, Banten, West Java, and West Nusa Tenggara.
