inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital has successfully blocked 227,811 contents related to online gambling from October 20, 2024 to November 5, 2024 at 06.00 WIB. The number is equivalent to an average of 14,238 contents taken down per day, demonstrating the government's commitment to maintaining the security and digital health of the public from the dangers posed by online gambling content.
Director General of Public Information and Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Prabu Revta Revolusi, stated that the goal of the enforcement is not only about taking down the perpetrators who support online gambling, but also about protecting the public from the exposure of content that has the potential to disturbed the mental, economic, and social order of the society.
"We continue to work hard every day to crack down on harmful content with the scale of our multi-platform controls, and this challenge is not easy," he said.
Cumulatively since 2016 until today, the government has blocked more than 7.9 million online gambling content. This number shows how massive the challenge is in controlling the exposure of these cases which are now increasingly diverse in form, from websites to social media. However, with cross-stakeholder collaboration and community support, the government is optimistic that it can minimize its negative impact on society.
Based on the latest report from the Communication and Digital Ministry Informatics Application Control Directorate (PAI), most of the online gambling content that was successfully taken down came from online sites and IPs, with a total of 213,336 contents or equivalent to 93% of the total content that was prosecuted. Followed by the social media platform Meta with 7,523 contents (3.3%), file-sharing with 4,491 contents (1.9%), Google and YouTube with 1,612 contents (0.7%), Twitter/X with 816 contents (0.3%), and Tiktok which was detected with 2 contents.
"We see that website and IP platforms still dominate in the distribution of content. However, we also remain vigilant with the emergence of new forms of content distribution on social media," he explained
The ministry realizes that monitoring and controlling content will not be effective without active community participation. For this reason, various complaint channels have been provided for the public to report negative content, including those related to online gambling.
