Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform has unveiled the government's initiative to introduce paternity leave entitlements for male civil servants when their wives give birth or face miscarriage."The government recognizes the significance of supporting husbands during such pivotal life events by granting them leave. It's a right guaranteed by the state for male civil servants," he said on Wednesday (13/3/2024). The government has finalized the Draft Government Regulation (RPP) on Civil Servant Management (ASN), acting as the implementing regulation of Law Number 20 of 2023 on ASN. This regulation, aimed for completion by April 2024, will specify the duration of paternity leave, which ranges from 15 to 60 days. Discussions with relevant stakeholders are ongoing, and the technical aspects will be regulated in Government Regulations and Head of the State Civil Service Agency (BKN) Regulations. Currently, only maternity leave for female civil servants is regulated. He underscored that paternity leave for male employees upon their wives' childbirth is a common practice in many countries and multinational corporations. "The government acknowledges the pivotal role of fathers in supporting their wives during childbirth, especially in the early postpartum stages," he elaborated.
