inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government will merge three Presidential Regulations (Perpres) into one regulation related to waste management so that it can be used as a source of electrical energy for national needs.
Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan stated that the regulation is intended to cut licensing procedures in waste management so that it can be converted into electrical energy.
"This will shorten the complicated procedures. It is hoped that in the next five years we can complete it in 30 provinces as our waste is already piling up," said the Coordinating Minister for Food on Friday (3/7/2025).
The policies in question are Presidential Regulation Number 97 of 2017 concerning national policies and strategies for managing household waste and household-like waste, Presidential Regulation Number 35 of 2018 concerning the acceleration of the construction of waste processing installations into electrical energy based on environmentally friendly technology, and Presidential Regulation Number 83 of 2018 concerning handling waste in the sea.
He said that the simplification was the same as that carried out on the distribution process of subsidized fertilizers.
From the waste management regulations for electrification, which originally required permits from the Regional Government and several related ministries, now PLN, which is the buyer of the conversion results, will only need a permit from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
From the total waste projection in Indonesia of 1.7 billion tons, a conversion into electrical energy of 2-3 gigawatts (GW) can be carried out.
