Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Health Ministry found the case of Tuberculosis (TB) will increase in 2023 up to 77% with 820,789 cases and 134,528 cases found in children. Global TB Report 2023 reports that Indonesia has become the second highest state of TB cases after India. India itself has recorded 1,060,000 cases of TB. “The case finding is still considered good as the government is able to take immediate action against those infected by the disease and not spread it further to others,” says the Director of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, Imran Pambudi in his official statement on Monday (3/25/2024). Indonesia itself has become the only country who has the regulation related to TB handling, which are contained in Presidential Regulation Number 67 of 2021. In the regulation, the regulation and the strategy of TB handling is discussed. “The only state who has regulations related to TB is Indonesia. The president considers TB as not only an health issue, but only an issue that should be handled by several ministries and sectors,” said dr. Imran. At the same occasion, Lung Specialist Doctor Erlina Burhan explained that TB could be cured and prevented through TB Prevention Therapy (TPT). “TPT is a method given to those infected by Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria and those who are at risk of TB,” said Erlina. The impact of TPT in eliminating TB is proven impactful as the therapy could eliminate the risk of TB from 24%-86%. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
