Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi announced that the Nusantara Airport in the new capital of Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, is preparing for trials to accommodate large aircraft after the successful landing of the presidential RJ85 aircraft last month.
"After the RJ85's landing, we are now ready for tests with larger aircraft," he said during his site visit to the airport's construction progress on Sunday (6/10/2024).
Minister Budi Karya highlighted that the runway has reached a length of 2,200 meters and a width of 45 meters. The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has been reinforcing the runway, aiming for completion by 10 October 2024.
“We will verify the runway's readiness before the next landing trial,” he said.
After enhancements, the runway will be prepared for the larger Boeing Business Jet 737-800.
The airport terminal, designed to be environmentally friendly and reflect Kalimantan’s culture, is also under construction. The project is slated for completion by December 31, 2024, allowing for the landing of larger aircraft, including the B-777 300 ER and A380.
