Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has banned the entry of pork and pork-derived products from Spain to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF), following an official outbreak report from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

“Based on the WOAH report, we have instructed all quarantine units to tighten controls and increase vigilance on pork imports from Spain,” said Sriyanto, the Deputy for Animal Quarantine at the Indonesian Quarantine Agency on Tuesday (6/1/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

The ban was issued after ASF was confirmed in Barcelona Province and classified as a recurrence of a previously eradicated disease. The restriction applies nationwide and will remain in force until Spain is officially declared free from ASF. Any detected pork products from Spain will be rejected or destroyed under quarantine procedures.

Authorities stressed that ASF is highly contagious among domestic and wild pigs, with mortality rates reaching 100 percent, although it poses no risk to humans. Enhanced inspections at ports, airports, and border checkpoints are underway to protect Indonesia’s livestock sector and prevent economic losses.
