inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized the importance of utilizing Indonesia's great potential as a global halal industry market, with a Muslim population reaching 236 million people.

"We know that our country, Indonesia, has a Muslim population of 236 million. This is a big market, a big market, a big potential that we must think about so that the existing opportunities are not lost to other countries," said President Jokowi, Tuesday (9/17/2024).

President Jokowi said that Indonesia has a strategic opportunity to become the center of the world's halal ecosystem. However, this requires strengthening the sharia economic ecosystem and providing professional players in the industry.

He noted that the growth of sharia industry assets in Indonesia showed impressive results, with sharia assets growing by 9.07 percent compared to national bank assets which grew by 8.9 percent.

In addition, President Jokowi said that sharia banks also recorded higher growth of 10.41 percent, compared to national banks which grew by 8.43 percent.

"Bank Syariah Indonesia as an important part of the sharia economy must grow, must have modern, competitive, professional management, to reach the potential market that we have, 236 million Muslim residents," said President Jokowi.

He also emphasized the importance of Indonesian sharia banks to continue to develop with modern, competitive, and professional management. The goal is for sharia banks to be able to take advantage of the existing potential market and become a barometer of sharia banking in the Asian region and the world.
