Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto states meeting between ASEAN and United States (US) could further improve collaboration in defense. This was stated by the minister when leading the ASEAN Defense Ministries meeting with its counterpart from US, Lloyd J. Austin III at Jakarta Convention Center on Wednesday (11/15/2023). “The meeting between ASEAN and US offers a valuable opportunity in strengthening collaboration and further understanding the growing defense landscape in ASEAN. Moreover, other important matters from the cooperation with US is to improve ASEAN capabilities in overcoming growing threat in Indo-Pacific,” says Prabowo. He also stressed the importance of further involvement between ASEAN and US in a more effective effort of overcoming challenges. “The challenges that we currently face is diverse and complex. Ranging from growing traditional threats to non-traditional threats such as cyber threats, transnational threats, to humanitarian crisis,” adds Prabowo. Furthermore, Prabowo believes that ASEAN and US have to work together to promote peace and security of the region. “This has become the opportunity to step into other collaboration, which in turn also improving the capabilities of ASEAN state members in facing growing challenges in Indo-Pacific,” conclude Prabowo.
