President Joko Widodo conveys three cooperation fields, including regional energy transitions, that could be the main focus for ASEAN Caucus during APEC Business Advisory Council. Jokowi reveals that its first main focus is to accelerate energy transitional, which has been stated in ASEAN pledges on becoming the global hub for electric vehicle industry. “Caucus ASEAN could play an important role in strengthening this initiative. On the other hand, the energy transition requires investment and technology support, which the initiative of Indo-Pacific Fund could contribute significantly,” says Jokowi quoted from Presidential Secretary Press Bureau on Thursday (11/16/2023). Moreover, other main focus is regarding the realization of carbon neutral. Jokowi said that economy needs to continue to walk side-by-side with ASEAN commitment in preserving the natural environment. “ASEAN has agreed on strategy for carbon neutrality pledges. Indonesia also set net zero for 2060, where in realizing that goal requires concrete cooperation, specifically in government and business sector which could be linked by ASEAN Caucus,” explains the Indonesian President. He then pushed ASEAN Caucus active role in accelerating the implementation of digital payment by arranging cooperation with finance institutions. “I am sure that ASEAN Caucus could play a pivotal role in this initiative,” adds the President. President Jokowi has welcomed the formation of ASEAN Caucus in strengthening the centrality of ASEAN in APEC Business Advisory Council. Through ASEAN Caucus, Jokowi hopes a more enhanced and solid cooperation in government and business partnership, as ASEAN is growing to be the epicenter of global economic growth. ASEAN has several important assets in becoming the main players in global stages as the coalition has the economic growth above the world average and huge demography of youth. “ASEAN also has well maintained regional stability. This is our power, this is our important assets that enable ASEAN to be heard more clearly in various forums including APEC,” conclude Jokowi firmly. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
