Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian authorities are working with South Korean officials to locate two missing Indonesian crew members after their fishing vessel sank off the coast of Jeju Island on Friday morning (8/11/2024).
The missing crew members, identified as YM and SJU, were aboard the Geumseongsusan 135, a 129-ton sardine fishing ship. At around 4.33 am local time, the vessel sank 24 km northwest of Biyang Island. It had 27 crew members on board, including 11 Indonesians and 16 South Koreans.
According to the South Korean Coast Guard (KCG), the ship sank while transferring its catch to another vessel. At the time, all crew members were on deck.
So far, 15 crew members have been rescued, including four Koreans and nine Indonesians, while two South Korean crew members were confirmed dead. Twelve crew members, including the two missing Indonesians, remain unaccounted for, according to antaranews.com.
South Korean authorities have launched a 72-hour intensive search operation.
