Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Chief of Indonesian National Police (INP), has distributed 264,7 tons of rice and 1.500 packages of essential supplies to assist the drought and hunger-affected communities in Central Papua. Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, the Head of the Public Relations Division of INP, affirmed that the distribution will be directly handed over to the affected population. "The current aid allocation includes 264,7 tons of rice," he said to reporters in Jakarta on Thursday (10/8/23). He highlighted that the 1.500 packages of essential supplies encompassing items such as 5 kg of rice, instant noodles, sweetened condensed milk, canned sardines, and sweet soy sauce. Additionally, aid has been extended to the community in the form of 1.000 adult jackets and 150 children's jackets. In order to ensure the aid's distribution, the INP is collaborating closely with all relevant stakeholders. "Our collaborative efforts entails INP's close partnership with the Indonesian Military, the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB), and the Local Government of Puncak Regency to facilitate the effective distribution of this humanitarian aid," he emphasized. Detailing the logistical operations, he expounded on the aid's transportation from Timika to the drought-affected areas of Agandume, a flight duration of around 40 minutes. For more distant locations like Sinak, the estimated flight time extends to around 1 hour. "Upon arriving at Agandume, the aid will be further distributed either via road networks or on foot to Lambewi and Oneri, a process estimated to span half a day," he concluded. (ta/hn/nm)
