President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo declared that the Nusantara National Capital (IKN) development stands as the world's largest project and is positioned to become a burgeoning economic center in Indonesia. "Within today's global landscape, the largest project that can only be found in Indonesia. (Namely,) Nusantara National Capital," he stated during the Opening Ceremony of the 17th National Congress of the Indonesian Real Estate Association (REI) held in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/9/23). President Jokowi revealed that as of July 27th, the government has acquired 34 thousand hectares of land for the IKN. He further extended an invitation to entrepreneurs to partake in the construction of the IKN. "The acquisition was by no means without expense. For its valuation, one could seek the insight of the Authority's Head (Bambang Susantono). An avenue of opportunity," he said. Beyond the IKN's visionary aspirations, President Jokowi also conveyed his contentment with the steady momentum of Indonesia's real estate and construction sectors, even amid the global economic deceleration. He underlined the steadfastness and resilience characterizing Indonesia's property sector. "Reviewing contributions from 2018 to 2022, the annual figures stand at Rp2,300-2,800 trillion, a substantial sum," he said. Significantly, these figures correspond to a remarkable 16 percent of Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). "Within this domain, the workforce actively engaged in REI's economic cycles encompasses an impressive range of 13 to 19 million individuals," he continued. Moreover, nearly all nations propel their economies through the conduit of the real estate property sector. This is attributed to the sector's significant contribution to a nation's GDP. (ndt/pr/nm)
