Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta is gearing up to face the megathrust earthquake risk from the Sunda Strait segment with a series of disaster simulation drills.
Wardaya, Head of the Emergency Response and Refugee Handling Sub-group at the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Jakarta, announced on Monday (16/9/2024) that city-wide simulations will soon take place.
The drills will cover various scenarios including earthquakes in hospitals, densely populated areas, markets, schools, and office buildings. Techniques for handling fires and floods will be included, according to antaranews.com.
BPBD Jakarta, in collaboration with fire fighters, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and Occupational Health and Safety (K3) experts, will conduct these drills. A gubernatorial decree will formalize the initiative.
Wardaya emphasized that these simulations are part of routine training mandated by local regulations. BPBD Jakarta's office in Petojo Utara is equipped with disaster-related resources available to the public.
The goal is to test and refine emergency response procedures and ensure residents are well-prepared for potential disasters.
