Inp.polri.go.id - Medan.  Central Java has won its first gold medal in golf at the XXI  National Sports Week (PON) Aceh- North Sumatra 2024 after a 12-year drought.

The gold was won by golfers Amadeus Christian and Nicolas Angga in the men's foursome event.

“It’s beyond our expectations to win gold after 12 years, especially as we mostly trained separately,” said Amadeus, known as Yoyo, on Monday (16/9/2024).

Yoyo and Nicolas trained apart due to Yoyo’s studies in Jakarta and Nicolas’s residence in Central Java. Despite this, they excelled, finishing with a total of 136 strokes, eight under par, over two rounds. Their scores were 71 and 65 in the first and second rounds, respectively, according to antaranews.com.

Nicolas admitted he was surprised to win gold, having only practiced on the PON XXI course for a few days before the event.

The silver and bronze in the men’s foursome went to teams from North Sumatra: Rayhan Latief and Asa Najieb (silver) with 138 strokes, and Christian Sinuhaji and Mikail Jaydra (bronze) with 142 strokes.
