“In securing student protest rejecting the increase of 12 percent in VAT at the Horse Statue Area, Central Jakarta, we are deploying 611 joint security personnel,” says the Head of Central Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police, Senior Superintendent Susatyo Purnomo Condro in Jakarta, on Friday (12/27/2024).
The joint personnel, said Susatyo, consisted of personnel from Metro Jaya Regional Police, Central Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police, Indonesian National Military, Jakarta Provisional Government officials, and related institutions. Personnel are stationed at several locations around the Horse Statue, National Monument, to the State Palace.
Moreover, Susatyo emphasized that personnel deployment was to ensure the protest went smoothly without any escalations.
The Police Chief added that the closure or diversion of traffic flow around the National Monument Horse Statue roundabout and several other locations is situational. Susatyo said that traffic flow engineering will be implemented considering the development of the dynamics of the situation in the field.
"We have reminded all personnel involved in security to always act persuasively, not to provoke and be provoked, to prioritize negotiation, humanistic service and to maintain security and safety," he said.
