Inp.polri.go.id - Surakarta. King of Surakarta Palace, Sinuhun Paku Buwono XIII Hangabehi, passed away on Sunday (2/11/2025) at the age of 77 after being treated at Indriati Hospital in Sukoharjo, Central Java.

The royal funeral will follow Surakarta traditions, with burial planned at the Imogiri Royal Cemetery in Yogyakarta on Wednesday.

In a gesture of respect, the Yogyakarta Palace has suspended all gamelan performances and the Srimanganti cultural shows until the funeral is completed. 

“As a sign of mourning, Keraton Yogyakarta will not sound the gamelan until His Majesty Paku Buwono XIII is laid to rest,” said KRT Purwowinoto of the Yogyakarta Palace on Sunday night.

The monarch, the eldest son of Paku Buwono XII, will be buried alongside his ancestors at the resting grounds of the Mataram royal dynasty.
