Chairman of the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU), Mochammad Afifuddin, admitted that it is indeed necessary to take anticipatory steps against cheatings in the 2024 Regional Head Elections, including cheating in regions which only present one candidate. 

"We must anticipate everything. It's called a competition, a fight for a regional head seat, the potential is definitely there, so we are working together with all parties," he said on Sunday (9/15/2024).

According to him, the KPU continues to strive to provide the best facilities, even accepting input and suggestions from various parties in order to prevent potential violations in the event. The number of regions that will hold elections with only one candidate is still in the updating stage until now.

"Until now, for now after the registration, extension, and re-acceptance of files that we have carried out, for now it is around one province and 37 regencies/cities," he explained.

Regarding coordination with the Police, he ensured that so far it has been very well established. Not only in regions with one candidate pair, but all regions where the 2024 simultaneous regional elections will continue to be coordinated.
