The spokesperson for North Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Hadi Wahyudi, revealed that the Anti-Graft Task Force, involving the Police Regional Inspection Inspectorate and the Criminal Investigation Directorate, has identified PH, a KPU Commissioner in Sidimpuan, as a suspect for extortion.
"The suspect promised 1,000 votes to a legislative candidate (D) and has been detained," he said on Monday (29/1/2024).
The spokesperson explained that PH was declared a suspect on Sunday and has been in custody. He was arrested along with a member of the District Election Committee (PPK), identified as R, who is involved as a witness in this case, at a café in Padang Sidimpuan on Saturday .
The spokesperson said that PH's modus operandi involved the extortion Rp 50 million from the victim in return of 1,000 votes. However, the victim could only pay Rp 26 million.
When asked about the involvement of others, he revealed that the case is under investigation, and the suspect is charged with Article 368 of the Criminal Code about extortion.
"The Internal Affairs Unit and the Criminal Investigation Directorate are probing other aspects," he said.
