Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung Acting Chairman of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU), Mochammad Afifuddin, said that KPU has developed a plan, including budget allocations, in case the “empty box” option wins in the 2024 regional elections, where 41 regions currently only have a single candidate.

“We’ve discussed the budget and KPU’s notes today. So far, there are 41 single candidates, but we will finalize this on September 22 when the candidate verification and eligibility are confirmed,” he said on Wednesday (11/9/2024).

If the “empty box” wins, a follow-up election will be held in 2025. 

“The next election will be held next year, and the term will be one year instead of five,” he explained, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The follow-up election will be funded by regional budgets, with possible support from the national budget if needed. 

Afif emphasized that all logistical preparations are underway, and no favoritism will be tolerated during the election process.
