Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, welcomed the arrival of Phil Handy, an NBA coach, who will share his expertise and train Indonesian basketball coaches.
“I’m thrilled to have Phil Handy here today, a globally renowned coach,” he stated on Tuesday (24/9/2024), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Handy’s presence is seen as a rare opportunity for Indonesian basketball, as NBA coaches rarely offer training in the country.
During his time in Jakarta, Handy will train Indonesia's national team coaches, aiming to enhance their skills to improve player performance.
Minister Dito emphasized the need to boost coaching capacity to elevate the game.
Handy, in turn, expressed his enthusiasm for helping Indonesian basketball grow globally. He will lead a coaches’ clinic on Wednesday, followed by sessions for children aged 14–18 on Friday and Saturday at GBK Stadium Arena in Senayan.
On Sunday, Handy will also appear at a meet-and-greet and talk show event in Tangerang.
Further discussions with the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) may lead to Handy's future involvement with the national team.
