Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H. Laoly will be on vigilant agains human rights violation following the many waves of Rohingya immigrants to Indonesia. Although immigrants have been faced with stern rejections from locals, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (KemenkumHAM) reiterated will still act firmly against human rights violations of immigrants smuggling. “Well it is true that it is a syndicate and some have been arrested by police. However, we pray that we could also avoid this completely someday, because these immigrants are also the victims of mafia syndicate who brought them here,” says Minister Yasonna on Monday (12/11/2023). According to Minister Yasonna, there are immigrants who have sold their own belongings and came here after being swayed with promises of better life. “But now we have saw the social reactions from our locals. There are differences in culture, clash of culture has always happened here,” says Minister Yasonna. Yasonna acknowledged that the arrival of the immigrants had received negative reactions from the locals, particularly those from Aceh and North Sumatra provinces. In response to this, the ministry seeks the best solution along with related stakeholders to resolve the case by still complying with Human Rights aspects. “I think Indonesia has more than enough to shelter the immigrants. Here we have already sheltered more than 13,000 immigrants from Afghanistan, Iran, and most recently from Rohingya,” explains Minister Yasonna. He hopes that regional government, central government, and UNHCR, could work hand in hand in seeking the best solutions to resolve the issue. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
