Ministry of Communication and Information Release Official Statement on NPWN Data Leak

inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Information delivered its statement regarding the investigation on the alleged data leak of Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) which has recently gone viral in the community.

The Director General of Public Information and Communication Prabunindya Revta Revolusi, said that in line with the statement of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), there was no data leak and related institutions continue to collaborate in investigation and mitigation efforts.

"Our statement is certainly the same as the DJP. It has been stated in the official statement that the DJP, the ministry, BSSN and police are coordinating intensively," he said on Saturday (9/21/2024).

The official statement of the ministry also emphasized the existence of the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP) which states that there are legal sanctions for parties who violate or leak people's personal data.

Prabunindya stated that the regulation stipulates that any party who discloses personal data that is not theirs can be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 4 (four) years and/or a maximum fine of IDR 4 billion.

Meanwhile, parties who use personal data that is not theirs can be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 5 (five) years and/or a maximum fine of IDR 5 billion.

Regarding the legal process for the alleged data leak, he stated that the legal process will be handled by the police as law enforcement authority in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws and regulations.

“We continue to urge the public to maintain a conducive information climate and actively maintain data security by changing passwords regularly and avoiding suspicious links and files to avoid data theft," he explained.
