Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) has called for widespread support for Palestine's fight for independence, urging Muslims to contribute zakat (obligatory alms), infak (donations), and sedekah (voluntary charity). Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh, MUI's Chair for Fatwa, underscored the significance of backing Palestine during the announcement of the Fatwa recommendation in Jakarta on Friday (10/11/2023). Highlighting the humanitarian aspect, he explained that zakat collected from Indonesian Muslims is earmarked for urgent needs and humanitarian aid in Palestine. He appealed to organizations like the National Alms Agency (Baznas) and zakat management institutions (LAZ) to rally support. Asrorun emphasized that while zakat traditionally aids local recipients (mustahik), during emergencies like the current situation in Palestine, it can be directed to those in distant locations, antaranews.com reported. MUI's Fatwa Number 83 of 2023 advocates various forms of support, including fundraising activities, prayers, and Salat al-Gha'ib (absentee funeral prayers) for Palestinian victims. This fatwa, he said, reflects MUI's responsibility in responding to what it deems a threat to humanity—the Israeli aggression against Palestine. Additionally, Asrorun called on Muslims to boycott Israeli products, emphasizing that supporting Palestine's independence is now a moral obligation. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
