North Sumatra Regional Police Thwarted Illegal PMIs Attempt to Move to Malaysia

Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Air and Marine Unit of North Sumatra Regional Police successfully secured the speedboat carrying illegal Indonesian Immigrant Workers (PMI) to Malaysia on Sunday (4/21/2024).

Head of North Sumatra Regional Police PR Chief, Senior Superintendent Hadi Wahyudi says that the patrol ship of RIB 001 was scouring around the waters of Labu Beach. There, they saw a boat with a lot of passengers on it.

The patrol unit approached the boat and there they identify the 31 people on the boat, which consisted of 24 alleged illegal PMI, and five ship crews, agent, and the coordinators

Furthermore, the patrol unit discovered that the boat was about to move the illegal PMI from Benteng Sirantau River to Cermin Beach to be later transported by a bigger ship to Malaysia.

“Of the 24 illegal PMIs, 14 are from East Nusa Tenggara, one from North Sumatra, one from Bengkulu, and eight from Aceh,” continued Hadi.

“Investigators will continue to coordinate and cooperate with related stakeholders in case process,” concluded Hadi.
