Inp.polri.go.id – Aceh Besar. The Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman harvest and plant the corn seed in a five hectares field owned by the Indonesian Military Force at Deunong Village, Aceh Besar Regency. “The harvest and seed planting of corns in Aceh is part of Indonesian agriculture movement, as it is not only for our own consumption but also as social activity for it could be supplied to those who need it,” said Andi quoted from Antaranews on Tuesday (2/6/2024). Furthermore, according to Andi, in 2017 to 2019, Indonesia who are not only able to self-suffice in corn, but also able to export it. The recent increase in import, clarify Andi, was due to the impact of El Nino. Moreover, Andi is optimistic that the import could be stopped in the future as a few months ahead there are 15 provinces that will harvest their crops simultaneously, boosting national food supplies. “We have seen the signs to stop the import as we have travelled across 15 provinces and planted the corn seeds. In a few months after this, we will see mass corn harvest,” said Andi. To increase the food supply of rice and corn, Andi also provides free seed, fertilizer and agricultural machinery as well as tertiary irrigation development. Andi noted that the aid was thanks to the refocusing agriculture ministry funds for IDR 7.7 trilion.. (ad/fa/pr/nm)
