Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Regional Police confirmed that there was an attack on a helicopter crew in Oksibil, Bintang Mountains, Papua Mountains. The attack was carried out by unknown persons (OTK).

The Chief of the Papua Regional Police, Police Inspector General Mathius Fahiri, said that the helicopter was carrying staple foods during the attack. The food staples will be sent to the local gold mine mining 88 Oksibil, Gunung Bintang.

"There have indeed been reports of attacks from OTK on helicopter crews transporting food," said Police Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri to Antara, Wednesday (5/7/23) evening.

According to Police Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri, reports from the helicopter crew that the food was being transported from Tanah Merah, Boven Digul Regency, South Papua, were attacked shortly after unloading the food for the miners.

When they arrived at the mining site, four people asked roughly why the food had just arrived. Then, proceed with the attack on the head and back of the helicopter crew.

"The victim then ran around the mining runway 88, but was still being chased by OTK who wanted to return to the persecution," he said.

The perpetrator explained to Police Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri and also pointed at other crew members using an air rifle. Then, the crew entered the helicopter by closing the door while being hit by rocks and trying to slash.

"After the pilot saw that the victim was already in the helicopter, he immediately flew him and returned to Tanah Merah, and the victim was taken to the hospital," said the regional police chief.
