Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Chief of Papua Regional Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri has reminded the local Regents about the statement issued by the Papua Mountains Provincial General Election Commission (KPU) regarding the submission of a letter concerning to the relocation of polling stations (TPS) in high-risk areas to the election organizing agency. He emphasized that the rationale behind relocating TPS was to proactively address potential security disruptions during the election process. The decision to transfer TPS is initiated by the Regent, who formally requests the relocation through the local KPU. "The Chairman of the Papua Mountains Provincial KPU has clarified that the proposal for TPS relocation, along with accompanying justifications, can be submitted to the local KPU. Following approval, the TPS transfer will be executed," the police chief told ANTARA in Wamena, on Sunday (8/10/23). Based on the report he received, out of 5,850 TPS, there are 28 polling stations situated near the KKB site, distributed across Lanny Jaya Regency, Bintang Mountains, Tolikara, Central Mamberamo, and Jayawijaya Regency. Additionally, there are 619 polling stations classified as highly vulnerable. These are dispersed across Lanny Jaya Regency (253 TPS), Nduga Regency (180 TPS), Bintang Mountains Regency (122 TPS), Tolikara Regency (59 TPS), Central Mamberamo Regency (4 TPS), and Jayawijaya Regency (1 TPS). Within the vulnerable category, 4,289 polling stations are spread across Yahukimo Regency, comprising 1,341 TPS; Tolikara Regency with 1,024 TPS; Jayawijaya Regency with 763 TPS; Lanny Jaya Regency with 613 TPS; Nduga Regency with 223 TPS; Central Mamberamo Regency with 123 TPS; Yalimo Regency with 114 TPS; and Bintang Mountains Regency with 88 TPS. In the less vulnerable category, there are 768 TPS in six regencies, specifically 270 TPS in Jayawijaya Regency, 268 TPS in Bintang Mountains Regency, 144 TPS in Yalimo Regency, 17 TPS in Lanny Jaya Regency, 42 TPS in Nduga Regency, and 27 TPS in Central Mamberamo Regency. He further explained that by means of a formal request from the local government to the KPU regarding the TPS location, classified as a highly precarious area around the KKB site, the TPS can be relocated to a deemed safer location. Responding to the policy's implementation, he noted that the final decision regarding TPS relocation ultimately rests with the local Regents, as the Indonesian Military/INP's primary objective is to ensure the secure conduct of the elections. He expressed optimism that this policy will be carefully considered by local Regents to prevent any security incidents leading to casualties during the general elections. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
