The Chief of Papua Regional Police Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri has announced his intention to investigate the factors contributing to the growing incidents of public order disturbances in Dekai, the capital of Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua. "I have instructed an investigation into the causes of various public order disturbances in that area, which have even led to casualties," he said as quoted from Antara, Monday (8/14/23). He stated that the outcomes of this investigation will be used for a comprehensive evaluation. Should the escalation of public order disturbances arise from a lack of engagement between law enforcement and the local community, he plans to encourage officers to establish more profound connections with the community. "If they are closer to all elements of the community, it is expected that the level of criminality in that area can be suppressed and reduced," he said. He concluded with the hope that, through the evaluation, there would be a reduction in public order disturbances in Dekai, enabling the community to conduct their activities without fear. (ay/pr/nm)
