Inp.polri.go.id - Manila. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian government, the Indonesian National Police (INP) and the Immigration Office for the arrest of fugitive Alice Guo, a former mayor, in Tangerang, Banten.

"I congratulate all law enforcement personnel involved in this successful operation. While the public may not fully understand the complexities, on their behalf, I offer my thanks," he said on Wednesday (4/9/2024), as quoted by antaranews.com.

President Marcos emphasized the strong cooperation between the two governments that led to Guo’s capture. Guo is accused of involvement in illegal online gambling and human trafficking.

“The Philippines remains committed to the rule of law. Guo will receive all legal protections, but we won’t allow delays in resolving this case,” he said.

Guo fled the Philippines in July and was arrested in Indonesia in August. Her sister, Shiela, and business associate Cassandra Li Ong were also arrested and returned to the Philippines earlier.

President Marcos warned that anyone involved in Guo’s escape would face justice. Arrangements for her extradition are underway.
