inp.polri.go.id - The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of the West Sumatra Police (Polda Sumbar) managed to apprehend RR (37 years) who ilegally sold pangolin scales weighing 12.8 kilograms in Padang. Suspect RR (37) was detained by police officers in front of a mosque on Jalan Angkasa Puri, Koto Tangah District, Padang City, (09/06/22). The Head of Public Relations (Kabid Humas) of Polda Sumbar, Commissioner Satake Bayu, explained that the arrest of RR began with the information about the trading, storing, or possession of the skin, body, or other parts of pangolin. Armed with this information, the Sub-Directorate IV of Ditreskrimsus Polda Sumbar searched for the location, the perpetrator, and the evidence of the illegal objects. "Officers immediately found the perpetrator carrying the pangolin scales at the crime scene, then secured him," said the West Java Regional Police Intermediate Officer. The perpetrator explained that he sold and marketed the pangolin scales through social media. In this disclosure, the police officers secured 12.8 kilograms of pangolin scales, one motorcycle, and two mobile phones. The perpetrators will be charged with Article 40 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 21 paragraph (2) letter d of Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Ecosystems with a maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of Rp. 100 million.
