inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. The Yogyakarta Sub-regional City Police are still investigating a riot allegedly involving groups of football supporters in several locations in the city on Sunday night.
"Yesterday, we only monitored the riot in Ngabean Parking Area and Lempuyangan. The other reports will be coming later," said First Police Inspector Gandung Harjunadi, the Acting Public Relations Head of the Yogyakarta Sub-regional City Police, as reported by Antaranews on Monday (8/25/2025).
In his statement, he stated that the trigger for the riot is still under investigation, including information circulating on social media about an alleged bus carrying supporters from Bandung ramming into civilians.
The incident occurred several hours after the third week of the Super League match between PSIM Yogyakarta and Persib Bandung at Sultan Agung Stadium, Bantul, Yogyakarta.
However, police have not yet confirmed whether the group of supporters involved in the riot had any direct connection to the football team involved in the match.
According to Gandung, one of the groups said to have come from Bandung, West Java, was not wearing team attributes and some had booked hotel rooms in Yogyakarta City.
