Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Palmerah Police Office have arrested a woman for repeatedly scamming victims with a fake baby adoption scheme at a hospital in Palmerah, West Jakarta.
“She was arrested while attempting to carry out another fraud at the same hospital,” said Palmerah Police Chief Senior Inspector Dr. Eko Adi Setiawan on Thursday (19/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Two victims, identified as JH and HI, reported the suspect, identified as AU, after she promised to facilitate baby adoptions for a fee, requesting payments ranging from IDR 5 million to 5.4 million for “administrative and delivery costs.”
After receiving the money, she disappeared.
Investigations revealed suspect AU had attempted the same scam at least five times. She was finally caught on June 13 after returning to the hospital, likely to target another victim.
Suspect AU now faces charges under Article 378 of the Criminal Code for fraud, with a potential sentence of up to five years due to repeated offenses.
Police urge the public to use only official legal channels for child adoption.
