Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Director of Distribution and Food Reserves, Rachmi Widiriani says that rains have become one of the factors behind the price increase of red onion.

“If we see from the product sectors, there are several locations where the production of its red onions were disturbed due to constant rains,” said Rachmi on Wednesday (5/1/2024).

In his statement, he explains that in maintaining the red onion price stability, the National Food Agency pushed the Cheap Food Movement program. The program was also implemented in Jakarta as the biggest consumer.

“Bapanas wants to maintain stability for the consumer. We do not want the public to feel the impact of the rising price of red onion,” explains Rachmi.

Rachmi explains that several red onion production center areas are struggling during the harvest. Some of them are Brebes, Ponorogo, to Lamongan.

“The production center areas are having difficulties in transporting its products to the consumer center due to the climate anomalies. Then, there are distance in distribution, and it is quite risky for the red onion,” Rachmi concluded.
