Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Riau Islands Regional Police has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 5.500 lobster seedlings to Singapore through Batam City from Lampung Province on Wednesday (26/7/23).
Police Senior Superintendent Nasriadi, the Director of Special Crime Investigation of Riau Islands Regional Police, stated, "On July 26, 2023, our personnel from the Directorate of Special Crimes Investigation intercepted the transportation of 5.500 lobster seedlings from Lampung to Jambi, and then through Batam, intended for smuggling to Singapore." During the operation, the police arrested four individuals (SB, AH, F, and Z) at the public harbor in Tanjung Riau, Batam, designating them as suspects in the smuggling attempt. The thwart began after the police received information about an illegal shipment of lobster seedlings to Singapore through Batam. In response to the report, the police conducted surveillance and discovered the suspects carrying the lobster seedlings near the Tanjung Riau Port, concealing them in plastic bags inside containers. The police arrested the suspects and confiscated 35 plastic bags containing 200 pearl-type lobster seedlings and 5,300 sand-type lobster seedlings. "These lobster seedlings originated from Bandar Lampung and were transported to Jambi before being further moved to Batam via a speedboat. The lobster seedlings were being sold at approximately Rp150,000 for pearl-type lobsters and Rp100,000 for sand-type lobsters," he siad. The suspects will face charges under Article 88 in conjunction with Article 16 paragraph 1 of the Indonesian Law Number 45 of 2009 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 2004 concerning Fisheries, as amended by Indonesian Law Number 6 of 2023 on the Presidential Regulation Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation.
