Criminal Investigation Board of INP Arrests 6 Suspects in Illegal IMEI Cases

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Criminal Investigation Board of INP uncovered illegal IMEI cases in the Centralized Equipment Identity Register (CEIR). From this disclosure, six people were arrested and named as suspects. "Among them are suppliers of illegal electronic devices without rights, namely the initials P, D, E, and B, and all of them are private. Then we also secured the initials F of the ASN (State Civil Apparatus) at the Ministry of Industry and also the initials A of the ASN at the Directorate General of Customs Excise," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Board of INP, Police Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, Friday (28/7/2023). He explained the disclosure of the case started with a complaint from the Directorate General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (Dirjen ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) that there was an attempt to enter data illegally. From there, a coordination and collaboration meeting was held, as well as the issuance of Police Report Number LP/B/009/II/2023/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 14 February 2023. Furthermore, 15 witnesses and 4 experts have been examined. This case occurred for 10 days on 10-20 October 2022, namely IMEI uploads to the Ministry of Industry's CIER system totaling 191,965. In carrying out their actions, the suspects also used an e-commerce account by illegally offering IMEI unblocking services on behalf of the Ministry of Industry. "What has been done by these suspects for 10 days, there are allegations of state losses where the recapitulation of IMEI 191,965 if calculated with PPh 11.5 percent, while the alleged state losses are around IDR 353,748,000,000," said Police Commissioner General Wahyu Widada. For their actions, the six suspects were subject to Article 46 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 30 paragraph 1, then Article 48 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 32 paragraph 1, Article 51 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 35 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE).
