The Riau administration has declared a state of emergency for forest and land fires from 13 March to 30 November 2024 through a Governor's Decree signed by Acting Governor SF Hariyanto. Chief Iqbal has directed his subordinates to participate in fire-prone areas. He is adamant about preventing wildfires in Riau, particularly those leading to hazardous haze. Acting Governor Hariyanto highlighted these concerns during the Special Coordination Meeting on forest and land fires 2024 at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. He requested assistance, including helicopters and TMC aircraft, to manage the fires in Riau for 2024. His appeal for one patrol helicopter and six water-bombing helicopters was approaved.
