Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. Riau Regiona Police have officially named Professor Khairunnas Rajab, the Rector of Sultan Syarif Kasim Islamic State University, as a suspect in a defamation case. 

He allegedly insulted several lecturers who protested his policies, according to antaranews.com.

Riau Police Director of Criminal Investigation, Senior Superintendent Asep Darmawan, said on Sunday (8/9/2024) that the decision to charge Khairunnas followed a case review conducted on 30 August 2024.

Khairunnas was reported by lecturer Irwanda for making inappropriate remarks. In retaliation, Khairunnas filed his own defamation complaint against seven lecturers, including Rhonny Riansyah.

Among the seven, only Rhonny Riansyah has also been named a suspect, with both Khairunnas and Rhonny facing charges under Article 315 of the Criminal Code for minor defamation.

The police have summoned Khairunnas for questioning on 11 September 2024.
