Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The Riau Prosecutor's Office has sought the death penalty for 45 drug defendants throughout 2024, according to Riau Prosecutor’s Office Head Akmal Abbas.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday (22/7/2024) marking the 64th Adhyaksa Day, he confirmed that these demands include capital punishment for major drug cases and life imprisonment in 22 other narcotics-related cases. 

Chief Akmal emphasized that these severe sentences aim to deter drug crime by imposing strict legal measures, according to antaranews.com.

While these cases have been prosecuted, the sentences have not yet become final as appeals are still pending. Once confirmed by the Supreme Court, executions will proceed according to legal rulings.

Chief Abbas highlighted recent high-profile cases, including that of Syadfiandi Adrianto and Alamsyah, who have been sentenced to death for their roles in an international drug network. Both defendants were found guilty of trafficking 64 kilograms of methamphetamine and received capital punishment due to their severe crimes and prior convictions.
