Riau Regional Police Arrests 39 TPPO Suspects in One-Week Operation

Inp.polri.go.id - Riau. Riau Regional Police has uncovered a human trafficking crimes (TPPO) case by identifying 39 suspects within one-week operation, from June 5th to June 11th, 2023.

Police Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, the Head of Public Relations of Riau Regional Police, explained that out of 39 suspects, 10 were arrested in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), 3 in Central Java, 10 in East Java, 3 in West Sulawesi, 2 in North Sumatra, 9 in Lampung, 1 in South Sulawesi, and 1 in Central Kalimantan.

"These 39 suspects are involved in four cases uncovered by the General Crimes Investigation Directorate of Riau Regional Police, consisting of 2 cases, as well as the Bengkalis Regional Police with 1 case and the Dumai Regional Police with 1 case," he said during a press conference on Tuesday (13/6/23).

The suspects face charges under Article 2 Paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 10 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of Human Trafficking Crimes, as well as Article 81 in conjunction with Article 83 of Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, which carries a prison sentence more than two years.

To ensure the well-being of the victims, they have been placed in a secure facility. "The victims have been placed in a safe house, and we are coordinating with the BP3MI (Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers) for their welfare," he concluded.
