Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Transportation's Directorate General of Land Transportation has required seat belt usage for bus companies, bodywork companies, drivers, and passengers to reduce accident fatalities.
Hendro Sugiatno, the Director General of Land Transportation at MoT, emphasized the alignment with Ministerial Regulation No. 74 of 2021 on Motor Vehicle Safety Equipment. This regulation specifies that every motor vehicle, including buses not intended for urban transport, must install seat belts to meet legal requirements.
To ensure compliance, each Motor Vehicle Periodic Inspection Unit (UPUBKB) inspects seat belt presence and functionality during technical checks, with a particular focus on buses. Vehicles found non-compliant will fail inspections and require repairs before retesting.
Hendro also said that the Directorate General of Land Transportation will monitor and evaluate nationwide periodic motor vehicle inspections to uphold safety standards
